cansuonen This album is groundbreaking. It has a sound that we haven't met in Kurdish music before. Caught me the first time I listened. She drew the picture of the dream world of Kurdish girls of the modern age. Long live Hêja. Favorite track: Derî Lêket.

about

Hêja’s first maxi-single Stranên Neşuştî/Filthy Songs consists of three songs which focuses on three different types of loneliness. The song named NeNe/NoNo which appears to be a manifesto that shows one day of a housewife highlights the unpaid domestic labor of a woman and her unfair loneliness. On the other hand the song named Derî Lêket/Knock on the Door depicts a woman who is boldly making fun of her loneliness. Lastly, the song named Belkî/Maybe talks about the historical loneliness of her people. All three songs have been composed by Heja. She also writes her own lyrics. Only the lyrics of Belkî are taken from the poem “17” by Kurdish poet Roşeng Rojbîr.

Her songs unites the Mediterranean and middle eastern melodies with western rhythms and basses which leads to world music. Grotesque and experimental vocals together with sympathetic melodies make her songs cheerful and colorful. The music director of Stranên Neşuştî, Cansun Küçüktürk made the arrangements and contributed to the maxi-single by playing bass guitar, electric guitar and clavier. All three songs has been composed in prison by Hêja and they are a kind of resistance against her exile. With Stranên Neşuştî we enter sarcastic and eccentric world of Hêja.
